Bleeding in hair transplantation can be classified as follows:
1- Hair transplantation bleeding with patient-related causes
Depending on the patient, there may be modifiable causes of hair transplant bleeding, medical drugs (acetyl salicylic acid -ASA- other blood thinning drugs, drugs that increase blood pressure), caffeine consumption before hair transplantation operation, during hair transplantation operation, after hair transplantation operation. Patients who drink alcohol chronically experience more bleeding during and after hair transplantation than patients who do not drink alcohol or who drink more.
2- Hair transplant bleedings due to patient-related reasons that cannot be changed
Hair transplant bleeding due to patient-related causes that cannot be changed are bleeding related to the genetic structure of the patient. Although these are seen due to many diseases, it would be appropriate to question these diseases before hair transplantation surgery, and to perform hair transplantation under appropriate conditions, especially in patients with genetic diseases that are difficult to stop bleeding. Otherwise, the patient’s life is at risk. Today, this is one of the leading causes of sad deaths in illegal hair transplant centers around the world. In the blood tests performed in our clinic, all the bleeding times required for your tests are checked without any appendix, and consultation is requested from the hematology specialists in suspicious cases.
Bleeding in hair transplantation can be classified as follows depending on the time of occurrence:
1- Aggressive bleeding during operation
The most common reason is blood thinning foods and beverages taken with food, such as excessive caffeine consumption and alcohol consumption, since the patient was not informed before hair transplantation. The patient’s history should be seriously questioned weeks before the operation and the hair transplant doctor should be informed about chronic diseases. In patients with hypertension, medications should be regulated, blood pressure should be under control, if blood thinners are used, they should be discontinued before the hair transplant operation, if appropriate, by the specialist who started the medication, and if not, they should be changed. High blood pressure causes excessive bleeding during hair transplant surgery.
2- Bleeding in the early period after hair transplantation
It can be due to external effects due to impact, as well as to situations that disrupt the physiology.
It usually occurs as a result of the patient hitting the transplanted area within the first few hours, unfortunately, the grafts come out/fall out of the transplanted area with the effect of the impact. In this case, the important thing is not to intervene in the area by the patient, and to inform the doctor and his team quickly. Intervention by the patient (such as cleaning, etc.) may worsen the event. It would be better not to touch the hair transplant area by non-experts.
Physiological hemorrhages are very diverse. It may be a sign of a bad situation (necrosis, etc.) or may occur as a result of incorrect medical treatment, use of unnecessary blood thinners, side effects of early postoperative medical treatment, or lifestyle changes that the patient will make in the early postoperative period (especially the first 3 days). such as not informing the patient about it. The most feared hemorrhage in this type of bleeding is the bleeding seen due to the deterioration of the circulation in hair transplantation, where the integrity of the tissue is disrupted: Necrosis!
3- Late period bleedings
These bleedings are mostly those that occur 2-3 weeks after the hair transplant operation. It is usually a harbinger of a bad situation. Sometimes, it can be confused as bleeding because the inflammatory fluid between the cells in the early period chronic soft tissue infections in the hair transplant area mixes with the red blood cells and rises on the skin. Redness in the hair transplant area after washing is not bleeding in this group.
